Bus heading for local camp involved in accident


On Wednesday, July 25 at approximately 8:40 a.m. a Thumb Area Transit bus heading for a football camp at EPBP High School was involved in an accident with a pick-up truck, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Berne and Gagetown Roads.

The bus, which was carrying 16 passengers ranging in age from 8-14 years of age, was traveling south on Gagetown Road, stopped at the intersection and then proceeded; failing to yield for the Berne Road Intersection according to the report. The bus collided with a pick up truck that was heading east on Berne Road.

The driver of the pick-up was transported to Scheurer Hospital by ambulance and treated and released for minor injuries. The bus driver was taken by private vehicle to Scheurer and was also treated and released for minor injuries.

Three of the bus passengers were transported by ambulance to Scheurer Hospital and were treated and released for minor injuries.

The 13 uninjured passengers were examined by medical personnel on site and were released.

Information regarding this accident will be forwarded to the Huron County Prosecutor's Office, where it will be determined if charges will be brought in this case.
