Driver and passengers lodged for pickup by immigration



The Michigan State Police report Friday, July 20, 9:30 p.m., Trooper Daniel Thompson stopped a vehicle on M-53 south near Atwater Road for speeding. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated and cited for no driver license, no insurance and no registration.

After further investigation, the driver and the two passengers were arrested for not having the correct paperwork to be in the United Stated legally.

Trooper Thompson was assisted by Trooper Verga and Sergeant Jim Hunt of the Huron County Sheriff's Department.

Troopers Thompson and Verga contacted the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and were instructed by an agent "to lodge the individuals in the Huron County Jail" until an immigration agent could pick them up on Monday, July 23, 2007.
