Walleye tournament yields record catches

The 25th annual Caseville Walleye Tournament yielded record catches this year. "Limits were taken in no time," said Mike Walsh of Walsh Bait & Tackle. "There were an unbelievable amount of eaters caught."

Walsh stressed that the tournament was a "family oriented contest." Unlike other tournaments - anyone can fish on a registered boat without an individual entry fee. That makes it easy for any member of the family to participate. "You don't have to leave people home because they can't afford it," explained Walsh.

This year's winner was Bill Putman of Sand Pointe. He landed the winner that weighed in at 9.08 pounds. In addition to the big prize, Putman won the "Biggest Fish of the Day" six times during the tournament. Other daily winners included Mike Dufty, Ben Walsh, Scott Polega, John Himmel, Rick Hess, Jim Pionk and Lou Karle.

Walsh hopes that the tournament will see more fishermen next year. He suggested the fuel prices may have had an impact on attendance.
