Daniels, 53, stood mute with her attorney at her side while Skubitt entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. With a not guilty plea, Daniels now faces a trial in Circuit Court.

Daniels is charged with one count of embezzling moneys from the Village of Caro where she was the Deputy Clerk for 35 years. If found guilty, her sentence could be 10 years in prison and/or $5,000 in fines.

The investigation by the Michigan State Police began May 9, when money was suspected of being misappropriated.
