Woman reports assault behind a Caseville tavern

According to Huron County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Gaertner, a 31-year-old woman has reported being assaulted behind a Caseville tavern. The woman said she left the tavern around 1 a.m. Thursday, was assaulted and lost consciousness. She reported regaining consciousness in a field at the edge of the village and that her pants were down and her panties were ripped off. Her panties were found behind the Caseville tavern. The woman sought treatment at Scheurer Hospital where the police were contacted.

According to Gaertner, the laboratory has a sexual assault evidence kit and he is waiting for the results to see if a sexual assault took place.

The police are conducting interviews with people who may have information. Also, according to Gaertner, the police have been told two males were bothering women at area taverns and that the women got up and left those establishments. The police theorize the woman did not know her assailant(s), Gaertner said.

Gaertner asks anyone with information call the Caseville Police Department at (989) 856-3304.

The Caseville Police Department is being assisted by the Huron County Sheriff's Department.
