Thomas Edward Weaver was believed to be wading in three to four feet deep water and using a metal detector to search for valuables. According to witnesses, Weaver was approximately 150-175 yards off the shore when he went under.

Weaver was at the beach with his fiancˇe Peggy Collins, as well as his children Megan and Zack.

An autopsy was performed later that day by Dr. John Laio and the preliminary results indicate he died of a drowning accident; no alcohol or drugs were found in his system. A more complete report will follow in four to six weeks.
