Effective July 1 Steve Corrion will become Pigeon's Village Clerk/Superintendent, the position vacated with the retirement of Janet Heckman. Corrion is employed by the Pigeon Department of Public Works. The Pigeon Village Council had formed an ad-hoc committee consisting of President Neal Eichler, and trustees Mike LePage, Patricia Diebel and Clerk Janet Heckman, which interviewed Corrion and presented the results along with proposals to the Council. He will work with Heckman during the month of June. He will also work with DPW until a replacement is hired and afterward, on an on-call basis for emergencies.

Corrion began working with Pigeon DPW in 2001 performing duties including taking water samples, plowing snow and general maintenance. He had gained prior experience operating heavy machinery with Corrion Excavating.

Corrion said he feels his experience working with DPW will be an asset because he knows the town well and knows many of the residents. He added the DPW position required meeting the public and answering questions; he expects this will carry over to the office-based position. Only three days into the new position, he said he already fielded some questions to which his DPW experience applied.

He said he has a good aptitude for understanding financial transactions and experience serving as a church treasurer for more than two years.

Corrion lives in Pigeon with his wife, Maureen and their adoptive son, Alexander, 5 months. His wife, nee Maureen Clor, a Harbor Beach native, is employed as a telephone sales assistant with Gannett Directories, Pigeon. He said he is looking forward to spending time raising their son.

In other village news, Pigeon will have some new faces on its Council in the near future.

Trustee James Pionk notified the Council at the Monday, May 21, regular meeting he is moving from the Village of Pigeon. His resignation, which the Council accepted, is effective immediately. A replacement to complete the remaining two years of his term will be elected during the Sept. 11, 2007 election.

Also on the ballot will be openings for the position of President and three, four-year trustee positions.

The Council granted permission to Clerk Janet Heckman, on behalf of the Village of Pigeon, to obtain prices for an electronic sign, which would be installed on West Michigan Avenue. No General Fund monies are to be used to pay for the sign.

The Pigeon Village Council granted permission to the John E. Eichler Family to enclose the Farmers' Market pavilion to house the first Village fire truck.

In other business, the Council also:

*Approved the minutes of the April meeting.

*Instructed Clerk/Superintendent Heckman to have Police Chief Wissner notify all residents in violation of the Village Ordinance regarding grass and weeds. Also patrolling officers should make note of such violations.

(The Council met Monday, May 21 at the Village Hall. President Eichler called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Members present were Collison, Diebel, Kohl, LePage, Pionk and Priebe. Village Clerk/Superintendent Heckman was also present. The Council adjourned the meeting at 8:30 p.m.)
