Huron County Press Local News PUBLISHED:
Officer Peltier talked to the second driver, Brian Smith, who stated he was driving east on East Huron when he observed vehicle #1 driving north on South Silver. Smith stated that Jurges (driver #1) failed to stop for the stop sign at the corner. Jurges started to make a left turn onto East Huron from South Silver, where Smith attempted to avoid striking him by turning his steering wheel sharply to the right. Smith stated it was too late and he was unable to avoid striking Jurges' vehicle. Smith informed the Officer that the front end of his vehicle stuck the driver's side of the Jurges vehicle knocking the vehicle to the northeast corner of North Silver and East Huron. Smith stated his vehicle turned completely around, coming to a stop on East Huron about five feet west of North Silver, facing westbound on East Huron. The Officer talked to two witnesses, Tracy Pawlowski and Sasha Cole, who stated they were sitting on the front porch at 820 E. Huron and observed vehicle #1 enter East Huron from South Silver. Both Pawlowski and Cole stated vehicle #1 did not stop for the stop sign. Both Cole and Pawlowski stated it did not appear that vehicle #1 attempted to stop for the stop sign as he was driving approximately 10-15 mph when he drove through the stop sign. The Officer determined once at the Huron Medical Center emergency room, Jurges was treated for a possible ruptured diaphragm by Dr. Shisler, and was being transferred to Hurley Medical Center, Saginaw, for further treatment. His condition was listed as stable. The Officer was advised by Smith that he was a little sore to the legs, chest and arm area, but refused medical attention by Central Huron Ambulance. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The Bad Axe Fire Department, Central Huron Ambulance, and Officer Marc Bridson, Bad Axe Police Department, assisted the Officer at the scene. |
