The charge carries a possible penalty of five years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine, according to Huron County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Gaertner.

At the time of the alleged incident, Julie Ann Hunley lived in an apartment at 645 S. Van Dyke, Bad Axe. She has since moved to Joyce Drive, Bad Axe.

"She moved near the victim unbeknownst to either of them," said Gaertner.

Hunley's bond is set at $4,000, 10 percent.

According to a press release by the Michigan State Police, Bad Axe Post, "In March 2007 a 26-year-old Verona Township woman contacted the Bad Axe Post in regard to an unauthorized account for phone service being opened up in her name."

Trooper Brian McComb conducted an investigation for approximately two months with cooperation from the Huron County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

This past Friday, Hunley was arrested and lodged in the Huron County Jail.

"This suspect used the personal identity of the victim," said McComb. He added, "The suspect did not know the victim."

According to Gaertner and McComb, Hunley "does have a lengthy criminal record."

"She (Hunley) moved into an apartment, the prior tenant's mail was delivered there; she (Hunley) opened the mail," said Gaertner.

According to Gaertner, the mail contained personal information of the prior tenant and Hunley used that information to open the phone account.

"It is a little over $100, but this shows how easily these things can happen," said Gaertner.

Her preliminary examination on June 14 in Huron County District Court.
