Samples will be collected weekly from June 25 through Aug. 31, 2007, and analyzed for Escherichia coli (E.coli) bacteria. If beaches exceed standards established by the Michigan DEQ, beach operators will be advised to close the beach for swimming and wading until safe sample results are obtained. The sand area could continue to be used for recreation.

Beaches that will be sampled are: Bird Creek County Park, Caseville County Park, Harbor Beach City Park, Jenks Park, Lighthouse County Park, McGraw Park, Oak Beach County Park, Philp Park, Port Crescent State Park Day Use, Port Crescent State Park Camping Area, Sleeper State Park, and Thompson Park.

The public will be notified of sampling results through local news media, including newspaper and radio. Results will also be posted on the Michigan Beach Monitoring Web site www.deq.state.mi.us/beach.
