Huron County Press Sports PUBLISHED:
MCCM jumped out to a 1-0 edge with a score at the 30:20 mark in the first and maintained their lead heading into the half. In the second half, an own goal by the Lakers sealed the deal. EPBP advanced to the semis with a 3-0 shutout over Waterford Our Lady of the Lake. Natasha Crawford-Sears, Katie Beachy and Stephanie Maxwell scored for the Lakers in the victory. While EPBP dominated early with three half scores, there was concern at the end of the game as goalie Beth Ritter appeared to injure her shoulder when she took a shot from an opponent's knee. Heading into the regional finals, Ritter had allowed just one goal in the post-season. Luckily for the Lakers she was okay and able to compete in the finale. "She always catches the ball well. She is good taking stuff out of the air and did a good job at that," Weidman explained. "A senior goalie that has good hands can make a difference." Ritter is one of 13 seniors the teams loses to graduation along with Sears, Brittany McGathy, Megan Jobes, Julia Voelker, Djaima Haumahu, Kaycee Damm, Brittany Albrecht, Erin Gettel, Katelyn Thick, Sarah Dunn, Jackie Yoder and Kate Gettel. |
