Huron County Press Local News PUBLISHED:
Born and raised in the Port Hope area, Arndt did leave the area to further her education and "life experiences." However, she did return to "give the gift of love" to many. "I do more hospice work, but I have always enjoyed the social work and always in the medical area," said Arndt. She recalls one of the most heart-touching experience of her career; helping to bring together a relative of a hospice patient. "I got them connected about three years ago. The Internet really helped me located the relative," explained Arndt. She added, "It was about the fifteenth person I called that actually knew the person I was looking for and then we connected everyone together." She has been involved in the community for many years, helping people with and without their knowledge. Many of her "gifts" are given anonymously and she does a lot of work "behind the scenes." And this is what her and some friends will be doing with the Rummage and Bake Sale this Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the corner of Huron Avenue and South Port Crescent in Bad Axe. A friend of hers once said, "You are always helping someone." Whether the help may be backing and cooking for a shut-in or a simple friend to checking in on her neighbors and taking the time to sit and chat. She enjoys baking, cooking, knitting and friends. This is the second sale Arndt and her friends have held to help raise monies for those that may be having a tough time. Some of the funds will also go towards Toys for Tots and Care and Share. "We did this a couple years ago and it was a success," said Arndt. She added, "We do a variety of things to help those that have hit hard times." The first sale generated over $700; Arndt is hoping to raise over $500 this year with the harder economic times in the area. "People do give up their time to help with a cause and many are very generous when it comes to helping others," said Arndt. There is no budget to speak of and big advertising dollars for the sale, Arndt and her friends distribute flyers in and around the area to get the word out. "We make up the flyers and basically use word of mouth," said Arndt. She added, "It all boils down to simply helping people." |
