Hatchets fall is semis at Reese

Bad Axe used a five run fourth inning to erase a 4-1 deficit in a key juncture of their Division Three District semi-final match-up against USA last Friday at Reese. But a three run rally in the bottom of the sixth gave the Pats the edge and they held on to beat the Hatchets 7-6.

Bad Axe advanced in the tournament with an 8-1 win over Cass City in Pre-Districts.

Pete Salens allowed just one run and two hits (he walked six), while striking out five to pick up the victory. Salens also shined at the plate with a single and a double. However the true star on offense was Aaron Manenti, who drove in three runs with a double in the fifth with a three-run double that extended a 4-0 advantage to 7-0. Jamie Fitzgerald added a pair of singles for the Hatchets.

The Lady Hatchets were eliminated in Pre-District softball action after an 11-0 loss to Cass City.
