In the first half, Bad Axe scored first and the Pirates added two own goals to give the Hatchets a 3-0 lead. The Pirates scored their first goal on a shot from 18 yards out by Stef Leese.

In the second half, Moriah Kish wove past several defenders to bring the Pirates within one goal, but the Hatchet team was up to the challenge and prevented any further scoring.

Rhonda Gusa had 13 saves and eight covers in net for the Pirates, who lose eight players from this year's roster to graduation including Gusa, Kish, Leese, Stef Gainor, Chelsey Priemer, Melissa Peterson, Chalsie Clark and Stephanie Wolschleger.

Harbor Beach advanced in Districts with an 8-0 win over Sandusky.

The scoring brigade began when Jillian Roggenbuck sent a short pass up the middle from the center of the field to Kish. Kish raced past the last defender and passed the ball into the left corner from ten yards out.

Several missed chances later, Gainor drove the ball up the right sidelines and sent a crossing pass to the penalty spot where a waiting Heidi Grekowicz shot to the near post.

The Pirates continued to get scoring opportunities, but "shot poorly" according to assistant coach Phil Bowen. Things turned around in the 32nd minute when they scored three more within two minutes. Gainor sent a soft shot to the goal and Kish beat the keeper to the ball for the third goal.

Then a Gainor to Kish to Gainor combination resulted in the fourth Harbor Beach goal. Grekowicz finished the scoring for the half with a shot from the far right side, which was assisted by Peterson.

In the second half, Gainor scored the first goal of the second half when Gusa sent a long pass from the defensive end of the field past the Sandusky defense. Gainor timed a perfect run and broke in all alone. She finished the play with a short pass past the keeper.

Gainor repeated the play a minute later with the assist from Grekowicz. Two minutes later Kish fed Gusa with a well placed centering pass and Gusa hit it into the near post to end the game.

Overall against the Redskins, Gainor led the team with three goals and an assist, while Kish added two goals and an assist.

Grekowicz chipped in two scores and a help.
