In the nightcap (a 20-3 victory), Mitch Dhyse picked up the win for the Warriors. At the plate, Mykael Schmidt led the attack with three hits, while Kurt Dhyse, Eric Mayes and Nienaltowski added two knocks apiece. Bearcats take 3-of-4 Ubly improved to 10-2 in the GTE and 20-8 overall with a sweep of Marlette (17-7, 7-4) and a split with BCAS (8-5, 7-8). In the opener against the Red Raiders, Joel Maurer earned the win on the mound, allowing seven runs, while striking out six and allowing six hits. At the plate, Maurer sparked the offense with two home runs (he was 3-for-3 at the plate) and drove in six runs. James Mazure and Grant Pichla added three hits apiece. In the nightcap, Zac Tyll struck out nine and scattered five hits to get the "W" for the Bearcats. Pichla added three more hits, giving him six total knocks on the day to go with his four stolen bases. In game one against the Cougars, Maurer was 4-for-4 with two doubles, while Jordan Kaufman and Mazure added two hits each. In game two, BCAS scored five times in the first inning to take control of the contest early. Maurer homered and singled to lead the offense, while Pichla added three hits. Hatchets win four straight<P> After sweeping twin bills against Harbor Beach (2-1, 4-2) and Marlette (10-5, 18-5 ) last week, Bad Axe ended the regular season at 19-11 overall. In the opener against the Pirates, Pete Salens improved to 6-2 by striking out nine and allowing just one hit and one walk. At the plate, Tim Rader, Joe Fischer and Jamie Fitzgerald had two hits each. In the nightcap, Aaron Manenti worked four innings, and allowed two hits and one run, while striking out four to earn the victory. Eric Moore struck out one in two innings to earn the save. Offensively, Jason Brown had a single, a double, a sacrifice fly and drove in two runs, while Rader added two knocks. In game one against the Red Raiders, Rader picked up the win in relief of Andrew McAleer. He went three innings and allowed four hits and no walks, while striking out five. At the plate, Nick Gibbard hit a two run single and a sacrifice fly to drive in three runs. Fischer, Nathan Janik and Salens had two hits apiece. In game two, the Hatchets scored 10 runs in the first before the first out was recorded. Fischer had five RBIs, while Gibbard had two singles and a double. Rader drove in three runs with three, while Janik and Manenti had two hits each. Soccer roundup: Hatchets ties with Montrose Bad Axe ended the regular season with a 2-2 tie against Montrose. The Hatchets did all of their damage in the first half as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two goals from Jackie Rochefort. Goalie Sara Thoms had another solid outing in net with 10 saves. Softball roundup: Lady Bearcats drop four straight Ubly dropped a pair of twin bills last week, first to Marlette (9-4, 9-2) and then later to BCAS (8-2, 10-3). Against the Red Raiders, Becky Kubacki had two hits, while Shannon Weber, Emily Dropiewski and Ashley Creguer add a hit each in the game one loss. In the nightcap, Sarah Block led the offense with three hits, while Gwen Pionk added two singles. Dropiewski, Kubacki, Weber and Creguer each added a hit. In the opener against the Cougars, Gena Briolat, Pionk, Block and Kubacki had one hit each. In game two, Pionk, Dropiewski, Block, Beth Weber and Camay Messing chipped in one knock apiece. Lady Warriors split with the Pirates North Huron split a double header with Peck, dropping the opener 8-2, before winning the nightcap 10-2. The Warriors finished the season as NCTL North champions with a 15-3 league record. In game one, Jodie Pettit led her team at the plate with a hit. In game two, Pettit picked up the win on the mound and added a double, a triple and two RBIs. Alicia Eggert, Kayla Horetski, Alex Risch, Heather Miller, Katie Jimpkoski and Jessica Teague added a hit each. |
