Lakers win four straight



EPBP ended the regular season by winning four straight games last week, including double header sweeps of Akron-Fairgrove (13-3, 15-0) and Sandusky (14-1, 17-4).

In game one against the Vikings, Adam Chiotti earned the win on the mound, while offensively Justin Dubs, Stu Edwards and Zac Gilbert had two hits each.

In the nightcap, Chiotti picked up his second win of the day. Offensively, Edwards had two hits and drove in two runs, while Chiotti added a long, three run homer. Marv Kish knocked in two runs with a pair of hits.

Against the Redskins, Mark Feger struck out six en route to a win in game one. Feger also led the offense with four hits, including two doubles. Logan Tibbits added two hits including a three run homer, while Shawn Wise chipped in a pair of knocks.

Brennan Lange was the winner in game two in relief of starter Craig Smith. Lakers scored 12 of their 17 runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Offensively, Tibbits and Lange had four hits each, while Feger had three knocks. Kyle Dubs, Chiotti, Chris Smith and Gilbert had two hits apiece.

EPBP finished the regular season at 19-10 overall.

Patriots continue to roll

USA finished the regular season on a high note with twin bill sweeps of both Sandusky (3-2, 10-5) and Reese (7-5, 12-7).

In game one against the Redskins, Matias Kraynak went the distance, striking out seven to earn the victory. Offensively, Tyson Valentine, Heath Schmidt and Shane Schmidt each had hits.

In the nightcap, Jordan Bolzman scattered five hits and four walks in five innings to secure the victory. At the plate, Cody McGinnis had three hits, while Bolzman and Lance VanHoost added two knocks each.

Later in the week against the Rockets, Kraynak struck out four to get the "W" in the opener against Reese. Brandon Bitzer led the offense with three hits, while Heath Schmidt added two doubles.

In game two of that twin bill, Shane Schmidt earned the win with five K's in 3 1/3 innings of relief work. Heath Schmidt and Mitch Keyes had two hits apiece, while each scoring three runs. Valentine also chipped in a pair of knocks.

The Patriots finished the regular season at 17-9 overall and won the GTW championship with a 9-1 record in league play.

Lakers finish 15-2

With wins over Bad Axe (5-0) and Bay City John Glenn (2-0), EPBP finished the regular season with a 15-2 overall record.

Against the Hatchets, Megan Jobes led the offense with two goals, while Amanda Dubey, Brittany Albrecht, and Sam Krueger added one score each.

Dubey, Jobes and Stephanie Maxwell chipped in one assist apiece, while Beth Ritter had three saves in net for the Lakers.The win over Bad Axe also secured the seventh straight conference title for EPBP.

Later in the week against John Glenn, Dubey scored on an unassisted goal to give her team the 1-0 halftime edge. In the second half, she assisted on a Maxwell score.

"Once again the defense for the Lakers stepped up and only allowed John Glenn three shots on net," Laker coach Mark Weidman said. "Defenders Dana Weidman, Sara Dunn, Kate Gettel and Natasha Sears played an exceptional game in the back."

Ritter earned her 13th shutout of the season.

Patriots knock off Redskins

USA continued to build momentum as they head towards the post-season with a sweep of Sandusky (10-0, 5-0).

In the opener, Marissa Lemere tossed a two-hitter, striking out 14 to earn the win for the Lady Pats. Offensively, Minda Martinez led the attack with a double and a single.

In game two, Katie Rayl also tossed a two-hitter to earn the victory. She struck nine Sandusky batters to earn the win.

At the plate, Carly Treiber had a single and a double, while Katie Schaus added a two run homer in the fourth.

Eagles swept by Yellow Jackets

Caseville dropped a twin bill to Memphis last week, losing game one 6-1 and the nightcap 3-2.

In the opener, Meaghan Fortsch was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Eagles.

In game two, Amber Bieri was 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI, while Tabitha Dexter added a pair of hits.
