Newsweekly Local News PUBLISHED:
"This year's selection was Peggy Bodis, a mother who just happens to be a senior Dispatch Supervisor at Huron County 911-Central Dispatch in Bad Axe," according to Huron County Undersheriff Tyler Ramsey. Bodis began her dispatching career in 1980. Originally from Sebewaing, she and her husband Bad Axe Police Chief John Bodis have been married for 18 years. The couple lives in Bad Axe and they have three children. Huron County Sheriff Kent Tibbits and Huron County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Gaertner have the duty to make the selection for the award. "Each year, Mark and I are asked to pick a mom. You look around the County to see who is qualified to receive this award," said Tibbits. He added, "We feel Peggy is the most appropriate for this award." Both Gaertner and Tibbits say the selection process can be tough at times. "The Sheriff and I talked about it, looking for someone that is deserving, not just because of working at Dispatch, but for all the extra stuff she does," said Gaertner. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Department, "Her knowledge and expertise not only in the area of dispatching but in computers and equipment necessary in her job to have made her stand out in her field." "A lot of her expertise I feel comes from her husband, John," explained Tibbits. He added, "I think it is very fitting for her to be the Crime Fighting Mom for this year." "John knew about it and did not tell me a thing," said Bodis. She added, "It is a great honor, it is really amazing." Gaertner says Bodis is a good worker and a great choice for the award. "In and around the area of her job she always has her eyes open to ways to combat crime," said Gaertner. He added, "She is a good choice, always working to inspire others and has a lot of ideas." "I don't have a Super Hero suit, I do my dispatcher job cause I enjoy helping people and getting them the help they need," explained Bodis. |
