"I'm looking forward to getting to know the staff, students and community," said Rierson. "I've heard a lot of good about the staff here and when I see the signs of it...it's really neat." "I've also heard and seen how the community is so supportive of the school system here." Rierson said two keys to his position are being very approachable and open-minded. "I want parents, students and staff to fell free about talking with me," he said. Rierson began his education career as a student teacher at Ann Arbor's Pioneer School. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a teaching certificate in Science and Biology and spent first four years teaching at Birmingham's Eton, a private school. At Eton, Rierson became Director of the school, which is in comparison to a principal administrative position. Rierson came to Caro Community School sin 1997 and for four years taught Biology. He served five years as assistant principal and one year as interim principal. "Just like USA Schools, Caro Schools have strong community support," he said. "I'll miss interacting with the staff in Caro and support they always gave me." "I like to use my leadership to find ways to helping people find their passions," he said. "I'm hoping to continue that and bring it to the table in USA." "This is a team effort...you can't do this by yourself." In his spare time Rierson enjoys Children's Literature, family time and camping. "I think my love for Children's Literature comes into play because I'm always reading books to my boys." Rierson's family includes his wife, Darlene, and three sons, Blake, Cade and Dirk. |
