Lady Pats three-peat



REESE-The USA girls continued their dominance in track as they won their third straight league title, beating out host Reese 102-84 to secure the championship. This is the sixth league title in seven years for the Patriots.

Sara Turschak was dominant for USA as she picked up three individual first in the 1,600 (5:30.29), 3,200 (12:35.09) and pole vault (9-0), while teaming up with Amanda DeSimpelare, Mercy Martinez and Cami Valentine to win the 3,200 relay (10:19.59). Abby Scharf won the shot put (34-5) and the discus (94-8), while Valentine was first in the 800 (2:33.34).

Second place finishers for the Patriots included Zoey Wissner in the 100 (13.42) and Valentine in the 1,600 (5:47.5).

For the Bad Axe girls, who finished third with 74 points, they got their lone win from the 400 relay team of Samantha Janik, Samantha Breault, Kim Schenk and Kristi Essenmacher (53.2). Essenmacher was also second in the 200 (28.15), while other second place finishes included Danay Majeski in the 110 hurdles (16.94) and 300 hurdles (52.94), Kim Schenk in the long jump (14-7.5) and Ashley Volk in the pole vault (7-6).

The 1,600 relay team of Kristi Essenmacher, Kati Essenmacher, Maggie Cramer and Schenk also finished second (4:29.47).

For the fourth place Laker girls, Chelsea Dubey picked up wins in the 100 (13.03), 200 (27.35), 400 (101.02) and long jump (16-11). Kaycee Damm won the high jump (5-1) and teamed with Megan Jobes, Stephanie Maxwell and Natasha Sears-Crawford to finish second in the 400 relay (54.83) and the 800 relay (1:55.92).

On the boys' side, Reese earned the win with 163 points, followed by Cass City (115), USA (35), Bad Axe (34) and Lakers (6).

The Patriots got their lone win from Joel Goodwin in the 110 hurdles (15.85), while the Hatchets were led by a pair of seconds from Allen Ireland in the 100 (11.48) and 200 (23.71). Ireland also teamed with Scott Hewens, Curtis Brown and Chanz Vincent to finish second in the 400 relay (46.65).
