Area athletes advance to the D3 finals



While no area team finished first at last week's D3 Regionals at Bad Axe (the Hatchet girls did finish second to Hamady 113-72), many athletes qualified for the state meet on Saturday, May 31.

For the Bad Axe girls, the 3,200 relay team of Kati Essenmacher, Cassandra Hanson, Breann Schramski and Jennifer Morneau finished second (10:51.26) to automatically qualify (the top two in each event make the finals regardless of time), as did the 400 relay team of Samantha Janik, Samantha Breault, Kim Schenk, Kristi Essenmacher who also finished second (52.39).

Ashley Volk was an additional qualifier for Bad Axe in the pole vault (8-0).

For EPBP, Chelsea Dubey qualified in four events, as she finished first in the long jump (16-3 1/2) and second in the 200 (26.27), while qualifying on time in the 100 (12.83) and 400 (1:02.02). Kaycee Damm advances to the finals with a win in high jump (5-1), while Katie Beachy qualified on time in the 100 (12.97).

On the boys' side, Bad Axe's Allen Ireland qualified on time in the 100 (11.25).
