Huron County Press Sports PUBLISHED:
"She pitched a beauty," North Huron coach Tracy Fischer said of Pettit's effort. "We had opportunities (to give her some run support), but we just couldn't capitalize," she added. "Base runners were few and far between." That was because Pirate hurler Brittany Braun also tossed a gem, striking out 10 while tossing a three hitter. The lack of offense was unusual for the Warriors. "We just didn't hit," Fischer admitted. "Normally, we're a good hitting team. That is the first time we've been shutout all year." But rather than dwell on the setback, North Huron will use this as a motivator for their run at a league title and beyond that into the post-season. "It's a huge confidence builder for us; we know that we can play with the big teams," Fischer explained. The Warriors advanced to the finals with a 6-5 win over Ubly in the semi-finals. Alex Risch picked up the win on the mound, while Kayla Horetski and Heather Miller drove in a pair of runs each. Earlier in the week, the Warriors swept Port Hope (4-3, 14-1) and Caseville (12-7, 6-0). Against the Bluestars, Risch struck out five to earn the win and added two hits at the plate in game one, while Nicole Church drove in two runs. Pettit, Sarah Piotter, Horetski and Jessica Teague each added hits. In the nightcap, Pettit picked up the win, while sparking the offense with a homer and a double.
