Lady Pirates split with Deckerville



Harbor Beach split a twin bill with the Eagles last week, winning the opener 5-3 and dropping game two 3-2.

In game one, Brittany Braun racked up 12 K's and allowed no earned runs en route to the win. At the plate she helped her own cause with a home run and a single.

Offensively, Kayla Bischer had a double and two singles, while Kayla Messing and Natasha Will added two singles each and Jolene Maurer a double. Courtney Maurer and Andrea Reid each singled for the Pirates.

In the nightcap, Braun struck out six, but allowed seven hits and three walks against Deckerville. At the plate, Will and Messing had two hits apiece, while Bischer, Braun and Kayla Booms each singled.

The Warriors swept a doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets last week with Jodie Pettit picking up wins in both contests.
In the opener, Sarah Piotter had a triple and a single and drove in a pair of runs, while Vanessa Osentoski added a double and a single. Jessica Ignash chipped in with a pair of singles.
In game two, Piotter added three more knocks, while Nicole Church, Ignash and Sara Clancy had two hits apiece.

Sandusky 7, Ubly 5

In game one, the Lady Bearcats got their offense going but were unable to get enough key hits to pull past the Redskins. Offensively, Gwen Pionk had a double and a single, while Samantha Sweeney added a pair of knocks. Beth Weber, Nicole Franzel and Megan Murdock each added singles for Ubly.
In game two, Weber picked up the win on the mound, while Danielle Mazure, Camay Messing and Murdock led the offense with two hits each. Jasmine Loss, Sweeney, Franzel and Weber also had hits.

Thursday, May 8

The Pirates got an outstanding effort from Brittany Braun in the opener, as she struck out nine and allowed just two hits. Offensively, Kim Wehner had three singles, while Kayla Bischer, Braun, Natasha Will and Andrea Reid each added hits.
In game two, Wehner allowed six runs (all unearned) and walked five in three innings of work, but Braun shut them out with six solid innings of relief, striking out five.
Harbor Beach trailed 6-3 after the third, but rallied for three in the sixth to tie it up. They picked up a run in the ninth to come away with the win.
At the plate, Will had a double and a single, Jamie Talaski two singles, Braun a double, while Courtney Maurer, Jolene Maurer and Reid each added a single.

Port Hope 15, North Huron 3
North Huron 12, Port Hope 11
The Bluestars took the opener as Kayla Gust struck out four and scattered five hits to earn the win.
At the plate for Port Hope, Erika Gisel had a triple, two singles, drove in one and scored twice, while Brooke Iseler added two hits and one RBI. Allyson Koglin chipped in a pair of hits and drove in a pair of runs, Gust scored three runs, Kim Koglin had a double and two RBIs, Brittany Schave a triple and two RBIs and Kayla Hoody two hits and one RBI.
For the Warriors, Sarah Piotter had a pair of hits, while Alicia Schramski, Sara Clancy and Clara Yaroch had one hit each.
In game two, Jessica Ignash sparked the offense for North Huron with three hits, while Clara Yaroch added a pair of knocks. Jodie Pettit, Ally Eggert, Nicole Church, Clancy, Abby Knoblock and Vanessa Osantoski each had a hit for the Warriors.
For Port Hope, Gust allowed 12 runs (six earned) on 14 hits, while striking out three. At the plate she helped her own cause by driving in four runs on two hits.
Schave drove in two runs for the Bluestars, while Allyson Koglin and Kristen Smaglinski added two hits apiece.

Vassar 13, Bad Axe 2

"It was like night and day," Hatchet coach Jim Collins said about the difference in how his team played from the first game to the second.
In game one, Bad Axe committed seven errors, which the Vulcans cashed in for seven unearned runs.
In the nightcap, sophomore Rachel Krulicki threw a five hitter and struck out two to get the win. Montana Greyerbiehl, Amanda Gentner and Lauren Ney knocked in runs for the Hatchets, while Ashley Bensinger, Amanda Gentner, Ney, Taylor Braun and Greyerbiehl played very well in the game two win according to Collins.
"We played so sound in game two defensively and we had four sacrifice bunts, which is a first for us since I have been head coach," he explained. "We really went for the win after a poor performance in game one. I am proud of the girls for bouncing back."
