Huron County Press Local News PUBLISHED:
However, voters do not agree with school officials as to the need for the facility. "Obviously it is disappointing," said HISD Superintendent Robert Colby. "The most common comment about it (bond proposal) is 'I didn't know about it.' The next approach will be to make it more known; we had information in the media and a telephone campaign by volunteers informing the public about the proposal." So, what is the HISD Board going to do now? "We are exploring options; one of the options is we cannot ignore the need for the facility and programs; another option is to come back with the same request or we will have no other need but to spend more of our Special Education Fund dollars. Our local superintendents don't like that idea," explained Colby. The HISD Board has been meeting since the vote to come up with options to follow. "We will be working on our options and hopefully have something this month," said Colby. "To reduce the request is not really an option; there is no way to cut the project." Only three school districts approved the proposal; however that was not enough to override the descenting votes. Of the 2,004 Huron County votes, 1,092 voted against the proposal while 912 voted in favor of the proposal. These are the official numbers provided by the Huron County Clerk's Office:
