Counci OKs Vision group's Waterfront proposal

During the Monday, March 19, Harbor Beach City Council meeting, council voted 5-0 in favor of the waterfront development proposal presented by Cynthia Goniewicha, daughter of council member Leonard Goniewicha.

She and several others joined together in December to form the Visions of Harbor Beach group. Their goal was to study the JJR proposals and then develop one with input from the community.

Their proposal focused exclusively on properties within the waterfront zone owned by the city. This is the major difference between the group's final product and that of JJR.

The proposal, now approved, will be put in a final presentation format by JJR, at a cost of approximately $500, and will then be sent to the state. There is a March 31 deadline requiring a formal waterfront proposal to be approved by the council in order for the city to receive $10,000 from the state, which will defray the costs to date of determining an acceptable waterfront plan.

The plan includes these items:

North Park: Dog Park with run area, Walking/Biking Nature Path, Rustic cabins with electricity, Renovation/removal of Pavillion, Park expansion. Brownsfield Site: Retirement/Assisted Living Condos/Apartments, Hotel/Restaurant, Yacht Club/Convention Center, Apartments/Condos, Campground, Golf dome/Putt-Putt golf.
