Huron County Press Local News PUBLISHED:
McLeod left her position as the County’s CIS Director to fill the gap and serve Veterans. “Because of the millage passage, this office will be full-time for the next six years,” said McLeod. She added, “It is going well and I have a lot of veterans calling me now that I am full-time.” According to the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs, “Of the 25 million veterans currently alive nearly three of every four served during a war or an official period of hostility. About a quarter of the nation’s population - approximately 70 million people - are potentially eligible for VA benefits and services because they are veterans, family members or survivors of veterans.” McLeod states there are approximately 3,300 veterans in Huron County including family members. “It is not just veterans I assist, there are also their dependants, children and spouses,” said McLeod. She added, “Spouses and children may qualify depending on classifications and other information.” Schooling may also be available to the children. “I am enjoying the fact that I can concentrate on Veterans now,” said McLeod. She added, “The vets come in and congratulate me. They like having a full-time person in this office.” The Huron County Veterans Affairs office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. A call to the office at (989) 269-8911 prior to stopping in is appreciated, explained McLeod. “It is an honor to represent the Veterans and their families of Huron County,” said McLeod. |
