PH looks to Lakers for guidance

Pigeon - Port Hope School officials met with the Elkton Pigeon Bay Port Laker Human Resource Committee recently to discuss the possibility of sharing a school administrator.

"They (Port Hope) are basically looking to share mentorship and support of their administrative position," said EPBP Superintendent Bob Smith.

Smith further explains Port Hope's goal.

"They're looking for the support for the next few years and then being able to take over on their own."

Smith believes this method is a wise decision and option to consider.

The EPBP school board passed a motion to approve the exploration of sharing the administrative position with Port Hope.

"We'll continue to discuss this and we'll consider options as they come up," he said.

In other board news, new state legislative procedures require school districts approve a participation resolution in order to continue the partnership to operate under the Michigan School Readiness Program (MSRP). Currently the school district operates under the Huron Intermediate School District (HISD).

"We've traditionally had this through the HISD and we passed a resolution to continue to do so," said Smith.

Smith explained the state money received doesn't allow the district and program to run properly or as good as having the HISD oversee the program.

"With the limited number of students and funding it's more profitable to operate at a local level," he adds. "This makes more sense educationally for the students."

Smith provided the council members with a short power point presentation regarding the sinking fund. The board will seek approval later this spring for 1-mill to renovate the facilities and grounds.
