A preliminary exam for former World Waste Services, Inc. owners Dominic and Sharon Campo, along with former employee Stanford Doll, was adjourned last week and rescheduled for Friday, September 5 at 10 a.m.

Harbor Beach settles teachers' contract

The Harbor Beach Board of Education and the Harbor Beach Education Association recently announced they reached an agreement on a new three year contract, which runs through the 2011 school year. The new deal has already been ratified by both the school board and the HBEA; it takes affect immediately.

After struggling with cancer for over two years, Sharon McLeod, a fixture in the county's Veterans Affairs office, lost her battle last Thursday morning. Though she will never be in the office again, her work and dedication at that post will keep her memory alive forever.

World Waste Services saga continues

Former World Waste Services, Inc. owners Dominic and Sharon Campo, along with former employee Stanford Doll, will head back to court today for a probable cause hearing at 10 a.m. in Huron County District Court. The Campos and Doll were arraigned earlier this summer on charges of Criminal Enterprises-Conducting (commonly referred to as racketeering), while the Campos are also facing charges of Money Laundering in the second degree.

HCCF welcomes Gib Rooney Family Scholarship

Huron County Students pursuing an education in a construction-related career will have the opportunity for some financial assistance as the Gib Rooney Family Scholarship will be available for a 2009 qualifying graduate. The student must be planning to pursue education at either a two- or four-year institution. Career plans might take the form of business, heavy equipment operations or construction engineering. Helen Rooney, wife of the late Gib Rooney, said, opening up the scholarship to all Huron County seniors is appropriate, given Rooney Contracting employs people from throughout the county.
